Wakefield City of Sanctuary Writing Competition 2018
Theme: Sanctuary. First Prize £100.

Birds Without Sky

'We are citizens without a homeland
Hunted like birds without sky'
These lines are from a poem by Malka Al-Haddad, who is a poet, an academic, a human rights activist and an Iraqi Asylum Seeker. Her poems express longing for home and explore her experience of exile.
What does sanctuary, home, a place to belong to and to find safety in, mean to you? This competition is a chance to express your ideas and feelings and, if chosen, to be published in a City of Sanctuary pamphlet.
City of Sanctuary is a national movement to offer a welcome and support to those who have fled war, poverty and oppression. We offer the hand of friendship and practical help to many who otherwise are destitute and alone. The closing date for entries is 31st December. The entry form can be found on: https://wakefield.cityofsanctuary.org/2018/09/04/wakefield-city-of-sanctuary-writing-competition-2018
