The Parish of Sandal Magna

Scarecrow Festivals in Sandal & Walton

We are spoilt for choice this autumn with two Scarecrow festivals in our parish on the weekend of 17/18th September.

Eight displays of mini-scarecrows have gone on show at St Helen's Church in readiness for the Sandal Scarecrow Festival. The scarecrow trail around the church was the idea of Angie Goddard and has been brought to life by Chris Westwell, winner of last year's Sandal Scarecrow Festival. There are displays ranging from a baptism family to a bride and groom, from gardeners to bellringers.

The Festival opens at 11am at St Helen's on Saturday, with refreshments available in the Emmaus Rooms. There are displays, games and charity stalls at Sandal Cricket Club and a scarecrow trail around Sandal.

On Sunday there are activities and stalls at the West Yorkshire Sports Club from 12 noon, with a closing ceremony at 4pm followed by a Children’s Party.

Walton (From Walton Library Newsletter)

Some may have grown up watching Worzel Gummidge, that loveable/sinister Scarecrow that lived on Scatterbrook Farm.

Working For Walton have decided to help us travel back to those halcyon days of mental scarring, by creating some sinister looking human effigies for their forthcoming  Walton Scarecrow Festival.
The charitable festival will be held on the 17th-18th of September.
Entry forms will be available to download from the Working For Walton Facebook page and available to collect from the Library, Odd things Shop, En Route, The Post Office and Creative Edge. The entry fee is £10.00 for a business, £5.00 for residents. Entries from Walton Manor Residential Care Home & Walton Academy will be free of charge.
