The Spring: Latest news

It’s been a busy few months at The Spring since we came back after our Summer Break, what with our sound clouds fitted, everywhere decorated and our 20th Birthday Celebrations too. However we try not to stand still for too long so since then we have had some fun baking and raising £400.00 for Macmillan Cancer Care at our Coffee Morning on 28th September – also raising through our monthly hot drinks donations £253.00 for Possability in September and just last week £368.00 for Epilepsy Action. A fantastic effort from all our CafĂ© customers – Thank you from us all!!

The Shop team have also been extremely busy getting ready for and hosting our Autumn Fashion Show held in support of CAP in October, an event we hold twice a year and one that always is so much fun. Over 80 guests were treated to some fantastic outfits modelled by our Volunteers on the evening and the event raised almost £1400.00 on the night with £1000.00 being given to CAP. A truly great night and a huge team effort from all concerned – watch out for our next one in March 2018.

I know we are only just into November but our Christmas plans are already in full swing – Christmas Cards and Gifts will be on sale in the Shop from Tuesday 14th November – Margaret and her team do a fantastic job creating a Christmas cupboard, secret location of course, but absolutely stuffed full of pre-loved and/or unwanted gifts that folk donate throughout the year which then go on to make the most amazing gifts for all ages and interests. The café team are getting ready too with the Christmas Lunch Diary now up and running with Christmas Lunches available from 5th – 21st December – but they are selling fast and some days are already fully booked for Lunches – Christmas Cakes are being made as I type and bread crusts are being cleverly turned into over 400 stuffing balls – there is not a moment to be lost.

We are always looking for extra help over the festive lunch period so if any of you lovely folk feel you would like to be part of the madness and mayhem but so much fun then do call me or call in to the Spring and I would be delighted to talk to you about the opportunities we have – it is only for 3 weeks but we do find that for many people once tried it’s difficult to not come back.
All of this activity keeps the staff team and our volunteers extremely busy which is why we are looking to recruit to our staff team in the New Year. Amanda, our very own Superwoman, is leaving us to help care for her Grandchildren which means we need someone to care for us , especially in our Washing up area, so if you feel you want to be part of our team then please contact me and I can tell you more about the role etc.

If you feel like you’ve overspent during the festive period and need to get your finances back in some kind of control, Sally Anne Lewis and I will be running a CAP Money Course at The Spring on Thursdays 11th, 18th and 25th January – it really is an ideal time to look at where you are financially and setting yourself some goals for the coming year,  putting you in the driving seat of your finances and perhaps for once being ready, money-wise, for Christmas 2018, or perhaps a holiday, new sofa – the list is endless.

With all that’s happening its quite exhausting just thinking about it , which is why at 2pm on Thursday 21st December, we will all be hanging up our hats for a few days rest and taking time to focus on Christmas and its true meaning to us.
